Last month, Pakistan information minister Fawad Chaudhry said that Saudi Arabia is the third "strategic partner" of the CPEC, soon after PM Imran Khan returned from his first foreign trip to the kingdom. The CPEC is China's flagship project of the multi-billion dollar BRI, a pet project of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
