The 22 accused, mainly policemen, were accused in the alleged fake encounters of gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kauser Bi and Sheikh’s associate Tulsiram Prajapati. They were acquitted as the prosecution failed to put forth any "documentary and substantive evidence" to suggest or establish the alleged conspiracy. In the trial 210 witnesses deposed.
