Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned on Saturday to end the political turmoil and pave way for the return of ousted premier Ranil Wickremesinghe. President Sirisena also agreed to reinstate Wickremesinghe despite previously insisting that he would never reappoint him as Prime Minister.
