Riotous mobs are behind most of the injuries to policemen (43% of 3,486 in 2015). The other big reasons are ‘attacks by other criminals' (33%), accidents (17%) and ‘terrorist/extremists operation’ (4%). On death, the compensation paid to the family of a policeman depends on which state he dies in or how charged the political atmosphere is.
