In the eight years since she found out she carries the cancer-causing BRCA1 mutation, Bengaluru’s Swayam Prabha has obsessed about not passing on the oncogene to her children. On July 20, with the help of modern medical techniques, she gave birth in a south Mumbai hospital to twins who don’t carry the mutation—the first such case in the country.
